Finally, the people seem to wake up to the ever increasing popularity of right-wing populist party AfD. Two weeks ago we joined “Hamburg steht auf”, a demonstration with an overwhelming 100.000 standing up to protest against faciscm and the AfD.

Joining the huge demo in Hamburg was a no brainer. This weekend, we went to a similar demo planned in a small town east of Hamburg in former East Germany. We were not sure what to expect there. Would there be only 50 people, perhaps surrounded by nazis taking pictures of us (A thought that made me realise how fragile our democracy is)? It turned out that there were between 300 and 1000 people gathering on the central market square. So there is hope and I am grateful for that.
